Tips

Tips for Parents

1. Encourage your child’s involvement in French by ensuring they do their homework and by taking an interest in what they are learning and doing at school each day.

2. Keep in close contact with the French teacher to see how your child is progressing.

3. Interact with French teachers in a social and academic setting; sponsor regular “get-togethers” such as wine and cheese evenings.

4. Consider donating French books and tapes to your child’s school.

5. Watch French-language television programs and news stories with your child.

6. Help older students to obtain summer employment where they might use the French they learned in school (tour guide, nanny to a French family, etc.)

7. Attend French film festivals or other cultural activities in your community.

8. Enroll your child in French summer camps and student exchanges.
