What is Canadian Parents for French - Manitoba (CPF-MB)?

Canadian Parents for French - Manitoba (CPF-MB) is a volunteer organization of adults who recognize the value of learning French and actively promote opportunities for young Manitobans to learn and use French.

CPF-MB provides information services for parents seeking research data about French second-language programs in the province or other areas of the country, information about camps and enrichment activities, and provincial and national newsletters with items of interest to parents, teachers and students.

CPF-MB maintains a rich and varied assortment of information and support services via the CPF-MB website http://www.cpfmb.com and publishes a wealth of information in its newsletters, the CPF Manitoba NEWS.

CPF-MB acts as an advocate for French second-language (FSL) programs, such as French Immersion and Basic French, providing information and support to parents seeking new programs or making presentations to local school boards for changes or expansion of existing programs.

CPF-MB has members in school divisions all over Manitoba, wherever there are French Immersion and Basic French programs. L’Association manitobaine des directrices et directeurs d’immersion française (AMDI)

www.amdi.ca

What is L’Association manitobaine des directrices et directeurs d’immersion française (AMDI) ?

A.M.D.I,  l’Association manitobaine des directrices et directeurs d’écoles d’immersion, is a professional organization which includes all the administrators (principals and vice-principals) of Manitoba’s French Immersion Schools.  AMDI was created in the late 1980’s to meet the needs for professional development and networking of French Immersion administrators. As it evolved the association has developed close partnerships with several organizations such  as les Éducatrices et éducateurs francophones du Manitoba (ÉFM) and COSL (Council of School Leaders) of  Manitoba Teachers Society (MTS), Le Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface (CUSB), Canadian Parents for French (CPF), ADEF (Association des directeurs des écoles françaises) and Le Bureau de l’éducation française (BEF).

The goal of AMDI is to support French Immersion administrators through networking, organizing professional development activities and raising the awareness of our members about issues relevant to French Immersion. It is our mandate to maintain a strong liaison with educational organizations in order to heighten the profile and needs of the French Immersion Program.

AMDI is an association which, by its mandate, works solely in French. As part of ÉFM, AMDI offers support and professional development to administrators in the French language. In its action plan, AMDI tries to target needs expressed by French Immersion Administrators and that includes non-French speaking administrators.

The French immersion conferences which have been organized in the last few years were the results of developing partnership and sharing information between key stakeholders such as School Divisions Management Teams, School Administrators, Parents, Trustees, Teachers, Students, etc.

This year’s French Immersion Conference focuses on the needs of French Immersion Administrators without excluding all the other stakeholders. The conference and the document are the results of a strong partnership between AMDI and BEF. (Bureau de l’éducation française). The French Immersion Administrator’s Handbook was developed in English in order to provide information that all administrators could use with their stakeholders.

The executive committee is made of principals who were elected at the last AGM (Colloque May 2007) and who volunteer their time to meet monthly and  work on the long-term and short-term goals  described in the 5-year plan (Plan d’action). AMDI is working in close collaboration with its partners to support and promote the following activities during the 2007-2008 school year:

  • CAP sur le leadership is offered in partnership with Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface. It offers professional development opportunities in French  to teachers and administrators in French Immersion schools.
  • Symposium is a conference in the French language for all teachers and administrators of French Immersion Schools. This year it will take place on February 22, 2008.
  • AGM (organized in partnership with ÉFM) will take place on Friday February 22, 2008 during the French Immersion Symposium.
