Assisted Learning

Most libraries in Manitoba have "Read-along" stories that come with a cassette recording of a children's book, as well as the book itself.  This is a great option for parents who don't speak French but who want to read en français with their children!

Another option is an actual French-learning program for your child.  There are many programs designed especially for children, such as:

Title Medium

 Teach me more French Cassette
Adventures with Nicholas - The Five Crayons Cassette
Learn French with Teddy Berlitz Cassette
J'ecoute et j'apprends avec les petits dinosaures Cassette

 Bilingual Baby - French VHS

DVDs/Videos

The wonderful thing about DVDs is that almost all DVDs sold in Canada are already bilingual!  You can change the soundtrack to French, and add subtitles in English for you to help explain the movie to your child, if necessary.

All the movies and characters that your child may already be familiar with can be found in French - Disney, Caillou, Baby Einstein and more!  Your local library is another great resource; most libraries rent movies for free or for a very low cost.
